Building Division

The Building and Safety Division is responsible for overseeing the general safety of all construction of residential, commercial, and industrial structures in the unincorporated area of Tuolumne County. This is done through the review of applications for building permits for all construction and remodeling projects. Inspection services for building permits issued, as well as responding to a variety of structural and safety related issues, are part of this Division's responsibilities.

Building Inspection Requests
For a building inspection request, call the building inspection request line at 209-533-5940. When scheduling any inspection please make the request before 3:00 p.m. the day before you want the inspection to avoid the inspection being placed on the next business day.

Adopted Construction Code
The 2022 California Building Standards Code, which includes the 2022 Building Code, as adopted by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors, is currently enforced by the Division. For further information on the current codes adopted by the County of Tuolumne, click HERE. You may also view the current construction codes on the Building Standards Commission website California Building Code.

Permits
All permits for building projects are issued to either owner / builders or contractors, and those contractors require a current state license. Potential owner / builders should contact the Development Information Center prior to planning any major projects for information about whether your project meets the limitations placed upon owner / builder projects.

Before planning a project with a contractor, it is recommended that you check the license status of the potential contractor(s) at the State Licensing Board website

Apply for a Building Permit
