Tuolumne County District Attorney Laura Krieg was before the Board of Supervisors on February 16, 2016 announcing that the District Attorney’s Office was pursuing grant funding for victim advocacy and outreach to elder abuse victims
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) Criminal Justice/Emergency Management & Victim Services Branch announced in December 2015 that they would be soliciting proposals for the Unserved/Underserved Victim Advocacy and Outreach Program for fiscal year 2015-2016. The funding will focus on service delivery to victims of violent crime with unserved/underserved and socially isolated populations. In addition it is designed to fund awareness and to improve the knowledge about accessing local services available for crime victims. There were ten crime types from which to choose. Ms. Krieg stated that elder abuse victims would be the focus for the program if funded due to a 59% increase in elder abuse prosecutions over the past three years. This grant would allow the District Attorney’s Office to increase staffing with a focus on community outreach, education, and specialized victim services.
The Board unanimously voted to approve the submission of the grant application.
