[ARCHIVED] DA Files Multiple Felony Sex Charges

DA Seal

Today the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office filed multiple felony sex charges against Mona McGrady, 61, of Sonora. Specifically she was charged with thirteen violations of Penal Code section 288(c )(1), Lewd and Lascivious Acts on a child between the ages of 14 and 15, and one violation of Penal Code section 289(h), digital penetration of a person under 18 years of age. Assistant District Attorney Eric Hovatter, who filed the charges, indicated the acts alleged occurred at various locations in the county, as well as several locations in Stanislaus County from 1995 to 1997. The confidential victim was a student at MotherLode Christian School where McGrady was an employee at the time. The confidential victim in this case disclosed the abuse to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department late last year and these felony charges are a result of the investigation that followed the disclosure. The Penal Code allows for prosecutions after the statute of limitations has run on certain sex offenses if the charges are filed within one year of the disclosure along with other requirements. McGrady’s maximum exposure is 11 years 8 months in state prison. The District Attorney’s Office recommends that anyone with information about this matter contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.
